The Area

Indiana is a scenic small town nestled in the hills of Western Pennsylvania.  Established in 1803, it was named after the Native America population in the area and was the result of a land donation from Declaration of Independence signer George Clymer.

Since then, Indiana has grown to a population of over 15,000 people and covers approximately 4.5 square kilometers.  There is a great history to Indiana, which is apparent to visitors in its classic main street, Philadelphia Street, and its 19th century architecture.  Two of the most notable structures are the Indiana County Courthouse and the First Commonwealth Golden Tower.

In addition to its architecture, Indiana is home to several important attractions.  The most reknown is Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Started in 1875, it is the 5th largest institution in Pennsylvania dedicated to higher education.

Indiana is also the hometown of famous actor Jimmy Stewart.  Stewart is most well-known for his lead role in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.”  Today, the Jimmy Stewart Memorial Statue stands across the street from the original site of his father’s hardware store.
Annually, the town hosts several social gatherings.  The first is the Indiana County Fair at Mack Park.  This occurs during the summer at the end August. The second is the Folks Arts Festivals, which is typically held during September.
